  • Instructions for Authors for Oil and Gas Geology

    1. Journal Overview
    Oil and Gas Geology is a comprehensive academic journal published both domestically and internationally. Its primary aims are to document significant scientific research achievements in China’s petroleum geology field, reflect the latest scientific and technological trends in petroleum geology, promote academic exchange both domestically and internationally, and enhance the level of petroleum geology research and practice. The journal is published bimonthly in Large 16-mo format. Major sections include "Expert Forum," "Oil and Gas Geology," "Exploration and Development," and "Technical Methods."

    2. Submission Requirements

    1. Authors are welcome to submit manuscripts online via the Oil and Gas Geology portal website (http://ogg.pepris.com). Manuscripts must be uniformly formatted in Microsoft Word on A4-sized pages.

    2. Contributions should focus on a clear theme, present distinct viewpoints, and be concise and to the point, with a maximum length of 10,000 words (including space occupied by figures and tables). Manuscripts must include:

      • Title (limited to 25 Chinese characters)

      • Author names (maximum 8 authors)

      • Author affiliations (including postal address)

      • Chinese Abstract (300–500 words)

      • Keywords (3–8 keywords indexed according to professional thesauri)

      • Chinese Library Classification Number

      • English Abstract (including Title, Author names in Pinyin, Author affiliations, Abstract, and Keywords)

      • First Author Biography (name, year of birth, gender, title/degree, and research focus)

      • Main Text

      • References (in both Chinese and English).
        If funded by provincial/ministerial-level or higher grants, note the project number at the bottom of the first page.

    3. Figures and tables should appear within the text (≤6 figures). Figures must be in color with bilingual captions. Maps involving national boundaries require formally published base maps. Specifications:

      • Dimensions: Single-column width ≤ 8 cm; Full-page width ≤ 16 cm.

      • Formats: Editable vector files (.cdr, .eps, or .ai).

      • Photographs: High contrast, clear gradation, color.

      • Tables: Use three-line format.

    4. Physical quantities and units must comply with national/international standards. Clearly distinguish letter cases (uppercase/lowercase), fonts (normal/italic), superscripts/subscripts, and ambiguous symbols. Define all first-occurrence symbols in Chinese.

    5. Section numbering:

      • Level 1: 1, 2, 3...

      • Level 2: 1.1, 1.2...; 2.1, 2.2...

      • Level 3: 1.1.1, 1.1.2...; 2.1.1, 2.1.2...
        Introduction/Preface is not numbered.

    6. References must be sequentially numbered. Formats:

      • Monograph: [No.] Author. Title [M]. Edition. City: Publisher, Year: Start–End Page.

      • Journal: [No.] Author. Title [J]. Journal, Year, Vol(Issue): Start–End Page.

      • Proceedings: [No.] Author. Title [C]//Editor. Collection. City: Publisher, Year: Start–End Page.

      • Report: [No.] Author. Title [R]. City: Publisher, Year: Start–End Page.

      • Thesis: [No.] Author. Title [D]. City: Institution, Year.

      • Patent: [No.] Applicant. Title: Country, Patent No. [P]. Date.

      • Online: [No.] Author. Title [DB/OL]. City: Publisher, Year [cited Date]. URL.
        Author names: Surname + Given Name (e.g., Smith A B). For >3 authors: list first 3 + "et al." (English) or "等" (Chinese). Use en dash (–) for page ranges.

    3. Editorial Rights
    The editorial department reserves the right to modify wording/format. Authors opposing edits must declare this in advance.

    4. Fees and Compensation

    • Publication fee: CNY 400/page, with a maximum charge of CNY 10,000.

    • Upon publication: Remuneration (covers print/online versions) + 2 complimentary copies.
