Studies on the geological conditions and process of hydrocarbon accumulation in western part of northern edge of Qaidam basin show that the main factors controlling hydrocarbon accumulation are the occurrence and distribution of source rock
the connectivity of carrier rock and the timing of trap formation and main expulsion stages. In a more profound respect
however
faults are the fundamental factor that ultimately determine the distribution of oil and gas reservoirs through controlling the distribution of source rock
trap formation
vertical and lateral connectivity
and formation of secondary oil and gas reservoirs from destruction of primary reservoirs.
