According to the principle that the chronostratigraphic boundary oughtto be a natural boundary reflecting a development stage of the earth,an in-ternational chronostratigraphic system of the Permian has been advanced inthis paper with the complete marine strata of the Permian in PaleotethysRealm as basis and with the development stage of fusulinid, which is thefirst leading fossil group in the Permian,as united indication. In this sys-tem,the Permian is composed of 11 stages of three series, namely(inascending order):the Kasimovian stage(newly defined),the Gzhelianstage(newly defined),the Asselian stage, the Sakmarian stage and theXiangzhongian stage of Lower Permian series;the Qixian stage and otherthree stages which remain to be named in future of Middle Permianseries;the Sanyangian stage and the Changxingian stage of Upper Per-mian series.

Tuzituoyila fault belt, situated in the northeast margin of the JunggarBasin,is primarily made up of northeast dipping thrusts. Its structural cha-racteristics is very similar to Karamay fault belt, and possesses of 3 terra-ces descending step by step from edge to the centre of the basin. This faultbelt was mainly moved in the end of the Paleozoic to the Jurassic. So theforeland depression connecting with the belt is primerily filled with Triassic-Jurassic and Upper Permian sediments.Upper Permian is considered as amajor source rock,Upper Triassic and Sangonghe Formation of the LowerJurassic may be secondary.Tuzituoyila fault belt may be provided withconditions for forming a complex oil and gas accumulation zone whichmay contain various kinds of oil pools such as fault block,fault-lithologicaland basement rock pools, etc.

The fact that there is a strong relationship between diagenesis and matu-ration of organic matter can be believed after studying several sections inthe Liaohe Basin. The ability of clay minerals to catalyze organic reactionsinvolved in the generation of oil has been recognized.Different clay assem-blages may play different roles in the primary migration of oil from mudsource rocks. On the other hand, the presence of organic matter appears toinfluence the mechanism of smectite-illite transformation. The reaction occursin different ways when organic matter is present or not.The study of thestable carbon-and oxygen-isotope shows that organic matter is an importantcarbon source for diagenetic calcites.Organic reaction thus correlates withinorganic reaction during diagenesis, constituting a complete“geochemicalsystem of diagenesis”.

It has been proved by observation of a lot of cores that shallow lacus-trine sandbodies in hydrocarbon-bearing basins of the Meso-Cenozoic inEast China are the products of flood flow and can be divided into three se-dimentary microfacies:1.Channel microfacies, characterized by multistoryfinger sandbodies with base scour and parallel-lamination;2.Overflow mi-crofacies appeared as sheet-like sandbodies with mixed character of coarseand fine grain;3.Distal microfacies, characterized by well-developed lamina-tion and common burrows. The genetic model of shallow lacustrine terrige-nous debris sandbodies, represented by the ones of the Dongpu and Shong-liao Basins, have four properties.

Field survey and seismic reflection profiles indicate that the followingmain fault types exist in northeastern Tarim Basin:1.imbricate thrustbelt;2.fold and thrust belt;3.recoil thrust belt;4.antithetic thrustfault;5.nappe tectonics;6.strike-slip faults. The formation of the thrustswere mainly controlled by regional stress field resulted from lateral comp-ression.Other factors are gravitation, basement control and diseguilibriumthrusting. Fault structures in this area play an important role in controllinghydrocarbon accumulation.Recoil thrust belt in Shaya Uplift and Akum, fronts of Shajinzi and Luntai major thrusts, antithetic thrust in Bostan,strike-slip fault belt in Karayergun and western Shaya and the fold, thrustbelt in Kuche Depression are favourable zones for oil accumulation.

Laojunmiao thrust belt,a tipical one, consists of Laojunmiao thrustand north Laojunmiao thrust. The fault planes have a listric feature,slip-ped down along the soft layer of the Taiyuan Formation. The variationfrom east to west in the belt as follows:the displacement and shorteningdecrease gradually;the fold amplitude decreases but its width and the thrustsheet thick ness increase. The variation of the thrust sheet thickness isprobably the main factor leading to other deformation. The evolution process of the Laojunmiao thrust belt that formed duringthe Himalayan movement can be divided into four stages:prethrus stage, embryomic stage, young stage and mature stage. The folds, especially thefaults developed gradually from east to west and from south to north. The deep structures of the belt, including the thrus sheet of north Laojun-miao and the structures in the Lower walls, are favourable for hydrocarbonaccumulation and are new fields for oil exploration.

The Lujiabao Depression, situated in the east part of the inner Mongolia withan area of 2500 km2,is one of the two biggest depressions in the Kailu Basin. The basement consists of hypergone metamorphic rocks of the Carboniferous-Permian Systems and the sediments with the total thickness of 5000m inthe basin are mainly made of Upper Jurassic,Cretaceous and few Cenozoic. Its evolution can be divided into two.stages.Fault-subsidence occurred in theLate Jurassic and depression in the Early Cretaceous. The Fuxin,Shahai andJiufotang Formations of the Upper Jurassic are considered as three source beds. The former is a poor one belongs to sapropel type, the latter two are betteror fine ones with abundant organic matter,of which the first two are sapro-pelic and the last belongs to humosapropelic type.In accordance with the ratioof hydrocarbon transformation, and of vitrinite-reflectance and OEP value,oil-generating threshold is determined to be 1400m in depth,lower-maturationstage is in 1400-1780m,and maturation stage in 1780-2200m.It is suggestedthat the Jiufotang and Shahai Formations have reached the oil threshold, andthe valuable thickness of source rocks is about 700m.Sandstones and contem-poraneous faults and secondary structures related to faults are well develo-ped in the depression. The formation time of traps coordinated with that ofoil-gas generation, thus oil show has been discovered in 5 wells there.

The Cretaceous System in Jianghan Basin covers an area of 30000 km2 with a thickness of 5000m,in which oil and gas seepage has been found inmore than ten wells and commercial oil flow is discovered in one well.Thehydrocarbon preserved in the Cretaceous derived from the Zongkou and Woshi deep Depressions(the Yuyang Formation of the Cretaceous),theunderlying Mesozoic coal measures of 1000m or more and Meso-Paleozoicmarine sediments of several thousand metres thick, possessing fine reservoir-covering and trap conditions. The Zongkou,Woshi Depressions and the peripheral areas are consi-dered to be favourable regions for explorating self generation-self reservoiringoil pools, while the uplifting walls of Qianbei-Tianmen,Tonghaikou,Wancheng,Zhijiang and Zhoulaozui huge faults are favourable for the exp-loration of secondary oil pools.
