Microporosity in carbonate rocks is not only a kind of reservoir space, but also a main reservoir type for some reservoirs in certain geological condition. Therefore,it is an important reservoir type, especially for the carbonate rocks deposited in low energy envi-ronment.This is evidenced by many microporosity reservoirs of Mesozoic and Tertiary in Middle East,North Africa,Southeast Asia and North America, and it is also evidenced by the microporosity reservoir of Lower Ordovician limestones in Sha-14 Well,North Tarim Basin. The type, evolution in diagenetic process, origin and control factors of mi-croporosity were discussed in this paper, and the characteristics of microporosity reservoir in Lower Ordovician limestone in Sha-14 Well were also described.

Tarim is a huge hydrocarbon-bearing basin that underwent three developmental cycles:1.Presinian basement-forming cycle;2.Sinian-Early Permian cratonic basin cycle;3.Late Permian-Neogene foreland and inland basin cycle. The Manggar Depression formed in Caledonian is the main hydrocarbon-generating depression;the North Tarim uplift, the Central uplift and the slopes are the directional area for hydrocarbon migration and accumulation;the Ackule,Yakela-Shaxi nose-type uplifts formed in early Hercynian controlled the distribution of oil provinces. The important tectonic movement in late Her-cynian caused the complete secession of the sea water from the basin, and ended the deve-lopment cycle of the cratonic basin.Hercynian was the main period for the formation oflocal structures, the fault activity, and the generation and accumulation of hydrocar-bon.Himalayan was the principal stage for hydrocarbon generation and accumulation af-ter Hercynian,Triassic-Jurassic source rocks were buried deeply and matured,Cambrian-Ordovician and Permo-Carboniferous formations were buried to generate hydrocarbon again in this period.

Jiangshuigou reef is one of well developed Upper Permian reefs in the Huaying Mountains. The reef-building organisms are calcareous sponges, hydrozoans, tabulozoans and Archeolithoporella etc.The development of the reef can be divided into two main cycles and each of them contains three stages, that is,stabilization, colonization and diversion.Eight communities and seven guilds have been established according to fossil assemblage. The abundant vadose silts and dissolved caves filled with oolites and pellets indicate that the reef had been exposed several times during its development. The eustasy was the ex-ternal factor that controlled the development of the reef, while the ecological evolution of the organisms was the internal factor. The extinction of the reef-building organisms was related to the mass extinction of organisms between Permo-Triassic boundary. So the reefs in the Huaying Mountains are the highest ones in the Paleozoic.

Of all the oil and gas shows in the marine strata in Central Yangtze Region, bitumen is most common, then oil shows, and the gas shows are the last.Since hydrocarbon evo-lution degrees are different, bitumen is mostly in Lower Paleozoic, gas shows mainly in the Silurian and Devonian, and oil slows in the Permian and Triassic. This indicates that gas exploring should aim at the Paleozoic and oil at Mesozoic. The oil and gas shows are concentrated in the two limbs of Huangling anticline, the north margin of South Jiangnan Uplift and the two limbs of Chenhu-Tuditang syncline. It is obvious that the loss of oil and gas are bound up with strong uplift and denudation.Tensile and tensile-shear faults are the principal factor in controlling oil and gas shows, and the migration path and accu-mulation space as well as the chief factor of hydrocarbon lossing. Most of the oil and gas showings are in fracture,fracture-miarolitic cavity and fracture cave. The study of oil-gas shows indicates that,Lixian Sag is one of the best areas in hydrocarbon potential in the Central Yangtze Region. The fault draps covering the footwall of the faults are favourable storages. The limbs of Chenhu-Tuditang syncline are the localities for the migration, accumulation and escape of hydrocarbon, and the place of the unity of oppo-sites is important for seeking oil and gas.

The Kezisuhumu Formation in the Upper Sinian is composed of carbonate rock and terrigenous detrital rock deposited in coast envirgnment, which could be subdivided into shoreface, foreshore, algal flat and tital flat subenvironment.Thormbolite-dolomitite in the algal flat and micro-dolomite in the tidal flat underwent dolomitization, dissolution, cementation and neomorphism. The porosity in the thormbolite-dolomitite was speedy de-clined by the cementation, but the reservoir spaces were produced by the dissolution, dolomitization and neomorphism. The analysis results of physical property for the thorm-bolite-dolomitite shows that the rock has good reservoir property.

Over the past two decades,as the programs of DSDP and ODP revealed increasingly a great quantity of information from the deep ocean, the Tertiary chronostratigraphy has been one of the frontiers that advances most rapidly in contemporary geosciences. The progress was initially stimulated by the availability of well-preserved and undisturbed deep-sea cores, and then continuously nourished by new information from the pro-jects.Based upon the improvements of plankton biostratigraphic datum events, radiochronology and correlations with magnetic polarity anomalies, the Tertiary stratigra-phy has been brought to the brink of a breakthrough that is approaching the limits of stratigraphic resolution.A synthesis on these progresses,as well as the global Tertiary stratotype stratigraphy,is presented in this paper.

In recent years, hydrocarbon exploration in Turpan Depression,Xinjiang has obtained gratifying achievements.Three oil fields—Shanshan,Yilahu and Qiuling were discovered in succession.Turpan Depression, covering 28600 km2,filled with Late Paleozoic and Meso-Cenozoic sediments. The deepest is Taibei subdepression with more than 9000m thick sedi-mentary rocks. The region experienced back-arc basin stage(D-P1),transitional basin stage(P2-T),intermountain basin stage(J-K)and foreland basin stage(E-Pre.).The Triassic and Jurassic sediments are not only the main source rocks of hydrocarbon, but also important producing formations.Up to now,52 local structures have been recognized by outcrop inspection and seismic exploration.45 traps(in different target beds)contained in 23 subtle structures were studied and analyzed with trap assessment method, thus setting up the parametric probabilistic standards of geological risk, volume coefficient and recovery factor, then the probabilistic values of geological nonrisk and recovery factor as well as the Potential re-serves were calculated with multiplication and Montecarlo method respectively. Finally, these traps were arranged in order with Ra(multiple index for trap arrangement)and 23 structures were analyzed with comprehensive arrangement factor. The result shows that the most favourable structures for hydrocarbon exploration is Qiuling structure, then suc-cessively Shengjintai,Shengjinkou,Hongshan,Taibei and Punan structures. This predic-tion has been proved by discovery drilling in Qiuling and Taibei structures(shanshan oil-field).

The basic pore types, the origin, the characteristics of micropore structure both in 2-dimension and 3-dimension space, the modality of the pore texture in the conglomerate reservoir formation of Karamay Oilfield were studied in this paper. The main parameters describing the pore structures were determined by statistics. Then the data from different oil districts, facies zones and formations were studied and twelve classifying programmes were obtained with different statistical cluster methods(cap analysis, dynamic cluster and system cluster). The pore structures could be divided into three kinds through optimiza-tion,which were characterized by different facies z騨es,formations and macro-types.The variation regularitvies of Parameters and curves(both capillary pressure curve and J-function curve)differ from each other.Obvious boundaries existed in correlation dia-grams.All of them satisfied the principle of the classification that are the most reason-able,applicable and classifiable,Finally, the standard of classification was set up.

Suibin Depression that covers an area of 5470 km2 in the west part of Sanjiang Basin is a half-graben faulted depression which faulted in the west but overlapped in the east. The NE-strike faults formed in the early stage controlled strip-shape structures, while the NW-strike faults developed in the late stage cut the structures into secondary blocks that composed of one sag, three uplifts and two slopes. The depression has fine source-reservoir-cap rock assemblage and trap conditions. The two source beds of Upper Jurassic developed in marine Dongrong Formation and the nonmarine coal-measures of the Chengzhihe and Muling Formations contain abundant organic matter.Organic carbon con-tents in mudstones are 0.300%-1.675% in Dongrong Formation;0.864%-2.700% in Chengzhihe and Muling Formations, and the ratio of chloroform extract"A"to that are13.43-117.00 mg/g in Dongrong Formation;8.00-50.60 mg/g in mudstone of Chengzhiheand Muling Formations. The organic carbon contents in carbonic mudstone is 5.725%-19.081%.in Chengzhihe and Muling Formation, and the ratio of chloroform extract"A"to that is 2.0′-19.5 mg/g.According to thevitrinite reflectance R°,the Dongrong Formation is 0.67%-0.98% and the Chengzhihe and Muling Formations 0.62%-0.92%,all of them have entered into mature stage. The later two formations are mainly gas-generating rocks.Sandstone developed in Upper Jurassic occupies 50% of the total thickness. Its porosity is 1.9%-23.3%,and permeability 0.01×10-3-1.41×10-3μm2 which satisfied the lower limit of the physical property of gas reservoir. The Upper Jurassic mudstone, being thick and laterally distributed stably,is favourable caprock.Besides, the tuff and Creta-ceous volcanic clastic rocks in local places could also be fine caprocks. The trap condition including linear anticline, diapiric structure, syndepositional anticline, lithologic pinch-outand stratigraphic overlap is good too.On the whole, the depression has favourable oil-gas forming condition, and quite a few coal-formed gas showings have been found.

On the basis of sedimentary rhythmic characteristics from lake delta of the Triassic Yanchang Series in North Shaanxi, some petrogenetic units were selected, the paragenetic relationship of the units were found out through mathematical statistics, and the relation-ship was induced to be a vertical sequential correlatograph.According to the thickness statistics of the petrogenetic units, the vertical model of the lake delta was established. The model shows that the lake deltaic sediments are characterized by the development of dis-tributary channel sandbodies belonging to constructive delta resulted mainly by river.
